The Southern California Indian Center's Education Component is funded by the California State Department of Education and the Johnson O'Malley Program and is dedicated to improving the academic achievement, self-esteem, social interaction, and cultural pride of American Indian students in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The Education Component works in cooperation with public and private schools, colleges and universities, and community agencies to provide the following services:
TUTORIAL SERVICES to American Indian students enrolled in Los Angeles and Orange county schools. Click here to download a "Tutor Request Form".
HIGHER EDUCATION and CAREER guidance, information, and encouragement. Click here to read our newsletter.
YOUTH PROGRAMS for American Indian students registered with the Education Component. Activities include educational/cultural enrichment trips, college visitations, youth conferences, fitness programs and the Intertribal Student Council.
PARENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS to increase the effectiveness of parent involvement in the education process. Parent participation is encouraged through Parent Advisory Committee meetings, fundraising, parent development workshops and conferences and other special events.
RESOURCE LIBRARY specializing in American Indian resources including books, audio visual materials and other learning materials. The Resource Library is located in Commerce and is open to members of the American Indian community and other interested parties.
Services and programs of the Education Component are provided free of charge to American Indian students and their families.
